NASA’s InSight mission successfully landed on the Elysium plain today will bring modern seismology to planet Mars and SeisComP3 is part of this enterprise. In collaboration with ETH Zurich , Switzerland, we have developed a comprehensive graphical user interface (GUI) based on SeisComP3 to assist the earthquake monitoring. The GUI will be used by the Marsquake Service, an InSight project team led by ETH Zurich , Switzerland, to identify signals from earthquakes or meteoroid impacts, to locate the sources based on just one 3-component instrument and to identify signals worth downloading at high sample rates. Using just one seismometer in this harsh environment poses a great challenge to hardware and software engineers and seismologists.

We are proud to contribute!
