First SCRUG meeting for North America

We are proud to participate in and to make a significant contribution to the first SeisComP Regional User Group meeting for North America (SCRUG - North America) which will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin/USA. The meeting will bring together seismologists and seismology-related scientists as well as tech people involved in seismic monitoring in order to learn about SeisComP exchanging experiences and discussing applications, requirements and cutting-edge developments.

We are very grateful to Prof. Dr. Alexandros Savvaidis, Manager and PI of Texas Seismological Network and Seismology Research (TexNet), Jackson School of Geoscience at The University of Texas at Austin for hosting and organizing this meeting.

Agenda

  • 11/04 and 11/05 morning: Basic SeisComP training by gempa (overview on introductory level).
  • 11/05 afternoon and 11/06 morning: Advanced SeisComP training by gempa with focus on tuning and introduction to scanloc and sceval for which evaluation licenses can be provided.
  • 11/06 afternoon and 11/07 morning: Presentations and discussion on needs and next steps (all participants).

Please refer to the official announcement or this link . This meeting will allow 50+ persons to participate.

Preparation for the course

Participants bring a laptop with Linux (RHEL 7,8,9, Debian 11,12 or Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 native or in VM) and SeisComP installed in the latest release version. RHEL 10 and Debian 13 are options for SeisComP in the upcoming version 7. gsm should be used for installing SeisComP in extension to the online installation instructions for SeisComP . Questions related to gsm can be addressed in the SeisComP forum or by direct support from gempa if available. Laptops must have at least Full HD screen resolution, 4 GB RAM, 4 CPU cores and 20 GB free disk space for adding waveform data and software packages.
